This poem is about the media. It was written using iambic tetrameter and six-line stanzas with the rhyme scheme ababcc.

When watching news that starts at five,
You have no clue that you’re misled;
The caption says the news is live,
But your discernment skills are dead.
   The droning voices mesmerize,
   You bite the bait and swallow lies.

You analyze the news to find
A source on which you can rely,
But you don’t notice humankind
Has been corrupted by the lie.
   Don’t take the time to analyze,
   You’ll bite the bait and swallow lies.

On every post, you can dissent,
Make comments and reveal your wit,
And after lines are proofed and sent,
You total up each like and hit.
   You take the time to criticize,
   To fight the bait and challenge lies.

When reading close between the lines,
You watch a hidden text appear;
The writers have as their designs
To fill your mind with slavish fear.
   Your fear will force a compromise,
   You’ll bite the bait and swallow lies.

You pay attention, lend your ears,
When heeding voices from the dark;
They only stoke your hidden fears,
And pay you with a burning mark.
   Don’t buy the fear, for otherwise,
   You’ll bite the bait and swallow lies.

(written c. June 2019)

No one sues righteously and no one pleads honestly. They trust in confusion and speak lies; They conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity. (Isaiah 59:4, NASB)

You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44)

But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. (John 4:23, NASB)

But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. (John 16:13, NASB)
