Etiquette – A Song Parody

This song about the internet is a parody of “Honesty,” my favorite song by Billy Joel. “Etiquette” generally means guidelines for acceptable social behavior. Your comments are welcome.

If you search for online wit
It isn’t hard to find
You can have the jokes you really want
But if you look for etiquette
You might just as well be blind
It always leads to such a fruitless hunt

Etiquette is such an olden word
Everyone is getting rude
Etiquette sounds snobby and absurd
But we need to change our attitudes

I can always find someone
To laugh at all my jokes
If I comment on the day’s big news
But I don’t need to have some fun
Or entertain some blokes
All I want is someone without views

Etiquette is such an olden word
Everyone is getting rude
Etiquette sounds snobby and absurd
But we need to change our attitudes

I can find a hater
I can find a wag
I can read some irony
Within a caustic rag
Anyone can counter me
With comments like a nag
I know, I know

When surfing brings anxiety
And the trolls lead me along
I won’t ask for nothin’ like the past
‘Cause when you want propriety
There’s nowhere to belong
And if you’re kind, then you might be the last

Etiquette is such an olden word
Everyone is getting rude
Etiquette sounds snobby and absurd
But we need to change our attitudes
