I saw two faces on my God,
appearing like a hawk and dove.
One blessed us all. One had a rod.
One face was angry. One showed love.
The face of love would draw me near.
The angry face would punish sin.
I didn’t know if I should fear
or try to love my God again.
Then I looked closer at my Lord.
What did I find when I inspected?
The rod I thought was my reward
was just the anger I’d projected!
As I give up my enmity,
the Face of Love is all I see!
